Is Incremental Reading any different to highlighting a book?

You're welcome Bee. The whole Incremental Reading thing took me quite a while to get my head around. Like any good idea, there are many variations around it. Consider it a fulcrum to pivot around for a method that suits you.

Have you considered moving from Anki to SuperMemo?

Another potential solution I am considering, is to highlight the pdf and then, once I have finished either the chapter or ebook, I could then run it through something like https://www.sumnotes.net/ I haven't tried the service yet but it seems it can strip out all the pdf highlights into one...

Is Incremental Reading any different to highlighting a book?

That would be very hard to do. However, this is a brief overview of what it is: Source: https://www.supermemo.com/help/read.htm However, if you really want to go into detail, you will find this gargantuan resource for incremental reading: http://help.supermemo.org/wiki/Incremental_learning I...

Mind mapping for note taking at university

I agree that they are great for the big picture. I've got xMind on my iMac and xMind Zen on my laptop. Both slightly different but essentially do the same thing. Both usable for free too!

    Is everything preordained?

Ever since the big bang, the universe has succumbed to a never-ending series of cause and effect. Molecules flying here and there, all according to the laws of physics. Yet, it appears to me as I type this sentence, that indeed I am in control of my thoughts, to some degree. But if everything is...

    Is Science a Religion?

There are those of faith that believe science is a religion of sorts, since you are relying on theories. Theories are not facts, they are guesstimates of the truth using the scientific method. And the whole scientific method revolves around a belief system, in which you entrust your faith. What...

What's your favourite home-cooked evening meal?

    1. Must be relatively quick to make. i.e. preparation time under 20 minutes. 2. Cooking time doesn't matter. That's it!

    Trump vs the World

It was only after watching the recent USA presidential election that I started getting interested in American politics. Beforehand, I had no clue about what was going on. One thing I notice is that commentators seem more brutal over there compared to the UK. Their freedom of speech lets them...

Have you considered moving from Anki to SuperMemo?

Cintanotes is just used as a go-between to efficiently get the information from your pdf into SuperMemo. In fact, there is a problem with pdf's themselves in that they are difficult to get the text into SuperMemo. So, using the above described method, it acts as a go-between. Cintanotes is a bit...

Have you considered moving from Anki to SuperMemo?

The reading of material from SuperMemo itself amongst heavy users is sometimes done directly from SuperMemo. However, there are many other heavy users who extract the material as they go. One particular user comes to mind where they do this: While reading a pdf, extract each relevant part to...

Is Incremental Reading any different to highlighting a book?

I thought exactly the same way as you did about Incremental Reading. However, after reading plenty of chats about this amongst other Supermemo users, I believe many of them are doing this.... Read & highlight > Add all highlights to Mother Topic > Split Mother Topic into subTopics > Cloze...

Mind mapping for note taking at university

When I was doing my Business Studies degree, I was reading a book by Tony Buzan about Mind Mapping. It convinced me to do all my notes using mind maps! Now, I am not 100% sure that it was the best thing to do at the time, but I did it anyway. Anyone here used mind maps for their university study?

I understand where you are coming from. When I am dumping information into Evernote (and now also OneNote), there seems to be an opportunity cost if it can fit equally well in 2 or more areas. Some people prefer to use tags in Evernote. In fact, there has been much discussion on this issue in...
