Mind mapping for note taking at university

When I was doing my Business Studies degree, I was reading a book by Tony Buzan about Mind Mapping. It convinced me to do all my notes using mind maps!

Now, I am not 100% sure that it was the best thing to do at the time, but I did it anyway.

Anyone here used mind maps for their university study?

I use Mind Maps for project management and to-do lists. At work, I manage several complex projects simultaneously, with different workstreams and timescales. Mind Maps are the most efficient way for me to unpack all of the complexities, relationships, and inter-dependencies, before I then go on to something more structured like a Gantt chart.

I agree that they are great for the big picture. I've got xMind on my iMac and xMind Zen on my laptop. Both slightly different but essentially do the same thing. Both usable for free too!
