Harvey Weinstein - guilty or not guilty?

Doc, I am largely in agreement with you. What I fear with the #MeToo movement is a power grab that leads to unlawful accusations, and in particular rewriting history because someone didn't like a particular event in the past. How easy it is now for a woman to ruin a man's life and exact revenge...

Harvey Weinstein - guilty or not guilty?

I have always been a believer of innocent until proven guilty. However, nowadays it is guilty by mob rule and media assassination. Let me tackle a difficult case, since the entire world appears to be against this man. My views are based on the legal allegations, not on whether he is or isn't...

    Intermittent fasting

I've done 4 weeks of fasting now, with 2 fasting sessions per week. I have lost a few pounds and I am now in my "normal" weight range, according to the health charts. I wish I knew what my starting weight was, but hey ho. The important thing is where I am now, not necessarily where I was. So, I...

Your top 5 most visited sites

I often think that what sites someone frequently visits tells you something about that person. Mine are, in no particular order: Amazon Seller Central (for work), Chessable (for practicing chess), Trello (my kanban style todo list online app), Whatsapp (online version, so can type faster)...

    Local customs

Why does Lewes have so many bonfire societies? I went there once on bonfire night. I was stuck in an extremely congested crowd for much of it and I was going deaf by the end of the evening. So many people throwing down bangers on the road in front of you! It was chaos, fun and as you say, with...

Mnemonics for inductive and deductive reasoning

I get in a muddle between inductive and deductive reasoning. One is general-to-specific, while the other is specific-to-general. So, with that in mind, I went to work on a mnemonic to help me remember them. I struggled at first, but have now come up with one and I am mightily pleased with...

    The Movies thread

Many people put stage fright and the fear of public speaking above death of the fear scale. I think it stems from being judged by the group, which back in neandertal times, that could have meant ostracisation and so near certain death. Maybe the two are intimately connected. But to be able to...

Ahh Doc, so The 12 Angry Men has a special significance for you. I preferred the 1957 version of the movie, with Henry Fonda. The remake was ok, but there was something timeless about the classic one. It often appears in the top 10 movies of all times list on IMDB.

    Cake

I've eaten so much cake that I feel sick! I couldn't stop, because it tasted so good. Lots of butter icing on it, which I love. They should put some kind of warning label on it, like they do cigarette packets.

People with Mental Illness are Essential to Our World

Yes, I remember you recommending it before. I listened to an mp3 on mindfulness meditation. I was always a little bit confused on what it actually means and it cleared up a few things.

Just finished watching The Interview. It looks like a low budget movie, since most of it is conducted in an interview room. But don't let that detract from the how good the film is. Look at "The 12 Angry Men" as an example of mostly one room but a superb film. Anyways, comes highly recommended...
