    Quote of the day

I particularly like this quote I came across today, even if I don't practice what it preaches. “I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.” — Abraham Lincoln

    Our own worst enemies?

I just got another habit distinction today. If you have trouble going to the gym, just show up and limit your workout to 5 minutes. This helps you overcome resistance to thinking it will be a huge chore. Just showing up is the most crucial step.

How long to create a habit

I had an insight today while on the treadmill. It was about how long it takes to create a habit. So, how long do you think it takes? Then I will chip in with my insight after we have some responses.

    The Movies thread

I'm watching a movie called Runaway Jury. Seems to have a good review and it is about gun control laws, I think. Anyway, the taxi guy in the movie was just saying it was New Orleans. And I know a certain person here lives there! Wonder if they have seen the movie and recognises the sites.

    Mental Tube

There is a concept of MVP, or Minimum Viable Product. You could always get it up and running and just iterate the code over time. Otherwise, you never get to market. I am guilty of this myself! In fact, a great example would be The Mind Tavern. The home page on the root domain is not exactly...

The Significance of Incremental Reading in SuperMemo: Part 1

Lengthy article on someone's experience in using Incremental Reading and what they learnt. https://bookuctivity.wordpress.com/2018/10/21/the-significance-of-incremental-reading-in-supermemo-part-i/

Yes, but why did they resemble tomatoes? It reminds me of going to Wimpey for a burger back in the day. They had those squidgy tomato ketchup pots, shaped like a tomato. Is your code for you to sell or is it for someone else to buy from you and then they sell it?

Uncle, that sounds a bit like the Pomodoro technique. It is quite popular. I bought myself a physical tomato timer. Not sure what it is about tomatoes...!

    Intermittent fasting

I don't think we can get that brand in the UK. Does reducing salt have much impact on blood pressure? I know it is recommended, but I just wonder how far on the systolic scale, for example, you can reduce the figure by reducing salt intake.

    Intermittent fasting

Fasting today. I was a bit greedy yesterday, but the amount of calories you cut on a fasting day is always way more than you overeat on a non-fasting day. My cappuccino is keeping me going. I have to wait 3.5 hours before I can eat anything. Then it is a 300 calorie Weight Watchers meal.

    I am going nuts!

It was a painful lesson for me. Three weeks of phone calls got me nowhere. As I said, they are supposed to put details in the case numbers but on this occasion they just ignored doing that. Maybe they didn't know what to do and so bodged it. One day after doing it in writing and it got fixed...

    The day today

That's good news then. Takes longer for things to heal when you get older. I used to do Wing Chun kung fu up until recently. I could only go once a week because the bruises would take nearly a week to heal, unlike the youngsters.

    NAS drives

Slowly getting there with my NAS drive. Takes a while to learn the ropes but I can now auto backup all my phones photos, beam videos from the NAS drive to my smart TV and also have my very own private dropbox type cloud sharing platform with several terabyte of storage. I'm a happy camper.

    I am going nuts!

As from yesterday, my tape is back in stock and selling again. What a sorry saga. One thing I learned is that sometimes it is better to use the written rather than telephone support system. Then there is a "paper trail" of conversations. They are supposed to do that with the telephone...

    The day today

Doc, I think all of us have had life events recently that have cut forum time down. Sometimes things happen in chunks. I had a big chunk recently, although it has eased right now. This might change if a certain large company goes nasty on me, but for now I have some respite. In any case, I hope...

    Intermittent fasting

Fasting again today. I found it easier today for some reason. It is 3:45pm and I have just started on my first bit of food for the day, apart from a cappuccino earlier. I make that 16 hours 45 minutes from the last time I had food. Some people do 16:8 fasting instead of 5:2. That means 16 hours...
