Seven lots of spam this morning. Good job everything is pre-moderated.

    Bit of a slump

Doc, there is no additional cost to having this site running since I have it hosted with some other sites I own. Yes, there are few posts, little traffic. But I am not looking for anything financial from here. I will keep this going and have no intention on pulling the plug for years. Anyone...

    The Dentist

Blimey Doc, that could have killed you! I think we have all had moments in our lives where life and death were merely the roll of the dice. I remember motoring along a dual carriageway and there was a car driving in the wrong direction in the fast lane. We were both probably doing about 55mph...

    The Dentist

I had my return dental appointment today. Sat there, with my mouth wide open as the dentist happily drilled away on two fillings. Fortunately, the only pain was jaw ache from my perpetual yawn. I am glad that's over! Feel a bit shaken up!

    My love of chess

I have my first game for a new chess club today. I am playing for Tunbridge Wells. It is a very strong team, as they have a Grandmaster playing on board 1! Normally, I am board 1 or 2 for my local club in Crowborough, but will probably be playing board 5 or 6 today.

    Is the earth flat?

I have a friend who swears it is. Many arguments have ensued. I said to him, "If the earth is flat, when the sun is shining, why doesn't it light up the whole of the flat earth?" His answer was it is more like a torch, so you don't see it from the other areas. Ahem.

    Ancient Astronauts

I think there is a correlation between documentaries, particularly those shown on YouTube, and fast moving, flashing animated images, with a deep voice talking about the destruction of the world etc. The more "out-there" the claims, the more hyped up the whole shebang.

    Happiness and the weather

I've often wondered if SAD is distinctly different from just feeling worse due to the weather. I've often wondered if the SAD condition is really just a cutoff point on a continuum, where all of us feel slightly worse with each increment of declining weather. Then, the psychologists decide on an...

What does autumn mean to you?

We have a relatively cushy life nowadays, compared with the past. The perception is we are in hard times, while the reality is we are in abundance. Just look at lifestyles and how hard they were in 1800.

    The last mosquito...

Yes, you are right Doc. It has been a bit quiet here. I've been distracted with other things. One of those things is training myself up to be a full-stack developer. I am learning Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and related stuff. I fancy trying my had at developing some apps for the Amazon Seller...

    The last mosquito...

I have a Buddhist philosophy: don't swat anything! But I know that is kinda hypocritical, because when I go for my morning walk, I probably tread on, crush and kill many many insects in the grass. Sorry to them all...

    Happiness and the weather

I hope I haven't posted on this already, but do you think the weather affects mood and happiness? I recall having read something that this is a myth, but that seems counter-intuitive to me. I am sure I feel happier when the sun is shining!

What does autumn mean to you?

The nights are drawing in, and it is definitely getting colder. In the UK, it is chilly, wet and miserable. Normal for us! The clocks went back too, so it gets darker earlier. Something I have never been a fan of, but it is something to do with the farmers, I think.

    Ancient Astronauts

I find the topic interesting, although I haven't watched anything on this recently. I suppose much of it is down to your interpretation of the ancient pictures, and whether or not they represent aliens. I do believe there is a good chance that bacteria came from another planet via asteroids, and...

Do you pursue subjects you were not “very good” at?

I empathise with your situation there Doc. We probably experienced similar paths regarding the caring aspect. It became apparent to me that many people are indeed left alone in these institutions until they die. It could be family members who can't be bothered to visit, or no family members. It...

    The last mosquito...

I hear mosquitoes like damp places. I knew someone from Finland, which has a ton of lakes, and they said the mosquitos are everywhere.

Do you pursue subjects you were not “very good” at?

I am pursuing a career I am not very good at. Sometimes you can pivot into a type of work that does not suit your nature.

Are the modern "caines" more effective then? Or just lower cost or what?
