    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

I should also point out that we have discussed Myers-Briggs on another thread and I was sceptical of it because the indicators are not distinct enough, but... as a flavour of a person, then yes, I think it has some value - but it isn't the be all and end all psychometric testers have promised.

    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Oh, Jon. I'm laughing my head off here. Firstly, my perception of you is pretty much as described in your results. Secondly, I did the test again and I am INFJ. The reason I am laughing is the following explanation of INFJ (if you can be bothered to read the large wall of text). I find it hard...

    The Mueller Report

I think people 'think' decisions are binary - and that's the problem. Most decisions are not either or - but they are set up by politicians that way: More funding for libraries, or more funding for care homes? What's to say there isn't a creative solution that means more funding for libraries...

    The Mueller Report

    * *On any given topic, Democrats and Republicans are interchangeable depending on whether the issue relates to Trump or Clinton. Everyone is so concerned with being right. Or being more right than the previous person. Why can't the two parties work together to deliver a collaborative solution...

    Are politicians above the law?

My point was rather obscure. I've been thinking about the treatment of Trump by Democrats and the treatment of Hillary by the Republicans. On the face of it, it would seem like Hillary has got away with a number of accusations that the Democrats are levelling at Trump. It would appear to be...

    Are politicians above the law?

I think it's very interesting - and I'm speaking as someone whose politics are a mix of centrist and left-leaning - that there is support for Diane Abbott (a leftist politician), whereas had a centrist or right-wing politician done the same thing, the same crowd would be baying for blood. It...

Debate - There's no such thing as Racism

I also tend to agree with Doc, but for different reasons. Racism is learned behaviour. We are not born racist, we learn to be through experience, environment and culture. Comparing racism and bullying is like comparing shoe sizes; not meaningful at all. It is possible to be racist and never act...

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

This poor guy. Who is going to break it to him that his vote didn't matter anyway? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-47986377

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

There are other ways to deal with election fraud without requiring proof of ID. As I said, voter fraud in the UK is negligible and we don't require ID.

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

So, if the UK has cracked voter fraud, why can't the US?

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

The field already is level. Everyone has the right to vote (unless under 18 or incarcerated).

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

Vote rigging is interesting, Doc. Here we don't ask for voter ID because we know election fraud is both very low and very difficult to pull off. However, there are elections coming up on 2nd May and 8 districts are trialling a no ID/no vote system. Already people are up in arms because they...

Should voting be weighted by testing knowledge beforehand?

Nope. That's democracy. If you limit voting to people who have the interest or intellect, then that's a form of dictatorship - possibly even facism.

My life is full of mistakes

Interesting. I think that we all make bad decisions. Some of those decisions are due to our own biases, or incomplete information, or simply because we don't spend too long thinking about the longer term impact. Some of those outcomes are impossible to predict yet the lens of hindsight makes us...

George Orwell's 1984 - are we there already?

And in a synchronicity I could only dream of, this appeared on my FB timeline about 5 mins ago. It's bloody marvellous:

George Orwell's 1984 - are we there already?

I'm not advocating curtailing anything other than not saying things which are intended to cause offence or hurt - or worse. You'll note I said <intended>. This is the point at which political correctness goes a bit loopy and people become frustrated. I personally don't mind clumsy expression of...

George Orwell's 1984 - are we there already?

I think the goal posts will always shift and there is no definitive answer. What was acceptable historically may not be acceptable now - and what is acceptable now may not be in the future. Society alters. Thinking alters. Language evolves. The nuance with hate speech is not that it is wrong to...

George Orwell's 1984 - are we there already?

I don't understand what point you are making. The whole premise of 1984 is that the government controls your thoughts (through the Thought Police, propaganda etc) meaning there is no freedom. Freedom in this context is free speech. I am a passionate believer in free speech - but only up to the...

Jussie Smollett - does this define justice in America?

We hear about the cases where justice appears not to have been served. We rarely hear about the cases where the law is applied as we would expect it to be. Fact is, violence shouldn't be tolerated. Whether that's male to female, male to male, female to female, or female to male (or any other...
