And also a matter of different voting systems. The UK is vastly different to the US.

    The morality of catch-22

In contempt of what exactly? If you mean in contempt of court, he can't be in a position where obeying the law puts him in contempt. So contempt of what?

    Feeling weird after coffee

Because she's had her caffeine limit in #1 but to continue to enjoy the taste, ambience, company etc she has a decaff for #2 so she doesn't then get palpitations and anxiety.

Does argument entrench or shift perspective?

Absolutely - spoil away. But be aware it's possibly the most futile thing you can do in relation to voting. Apart from voting, of course.

    Who owns the Moon?

I think that until our celestial overlords make themselves known to us, we are probably okay to carry on as we are. A bit like ants crawling over a rock. They don't know they don't own the rock.

    Who owns the Moon?

I googled it. There are many similar answers, but this one caught my attention - who knew there is such a thing as 'space-law'? http://theconversation.com/who-owns-the-moon-a-space-lawyer-answers-99974

    Feeling weird after coffee

I agree with Doc, it sounds like you can probably process the coffees you have been having, but the Red Bull is the real culprit. It's so bad for you. So bad. You could always try decaff coffee? I have coffee with a friend every Friday morning and she starts with a normal caffeinated coffee...

Does argument entrench or shift perspective?

Last Thursday, I worked an 18 hour day for our local elections as a polling clerk - the person who checks you are eligible to vote and who hands out the ballot paper. There was a discussion on a local noticeboard after the elections about who had spoilt their voting slips in protest. But this is...

Does argument entrench or shift perspective?

I think that's what Jon has been saying all along?

Does argument entrench or shift perspective?

I've been thinking about this - and it just adds weight to your argument about voting, Jon. One vote cannot and will not influence the outcome, so it is logical to say your vote doesn't count.

    Bee scared of the Doc

I think it's because men believe they are invincible. Truly. The sad thing is that testicular cancer is very treatable and yet so many men I know who have a lump 'down there' haven't said or done anything about it until it's practically grapefuit-sized. I am glad you went to the Docs. I am...

Can you compromise on a binary decision?

Exactly that, Doc. Exactly that. There are other, better ways of solving problems and reaching a solution.

Can you compromise on a binary decision?

I agree, Doc, it's partially about the language. But what I am actually advocating is a change in mindset. Move away from the win/lose mindset and move towards a form of thinking which is freer and hopefully more creative as a result.

Can you compromise on a binary decision?

Of course there will always be winners and losers. However the aim should be to try to come up with a solution that is the most palatable. Let's take Brexit: The vote was split roughly 52% leave and 48% remain. Those of you with an awareness of stats will know that the % split was based on the...

    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Doc's theory is right - though it's also given me ESTJ as an indicator. I suspect that's because ESTJ is the most common personality type however, and not because that's what my results lead to: http://www.humanmetrics.com/personality/estj-type?EI=1&SN=1&TF=1&JP=1 Jon, I don't understand your...

    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Actually - I think you are right. I think the centre point is 0 and you can be 1-100% in either direction. That would make more sense. So you are 53% into Introversion.

    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Think of each pairing as either end of a continuum. So, E is at one end, and I is at the other. So at 53% you are close to the middle, but your natural (or preferred) thinking style is introversion. Please also note this is not the same thing as being 'an introvert' as is stereotypically...
