    The Alabama Ruling

The ultimate meaning, whatever was originally intended, is about unfairness.

    Trump bashing - a near full-time hobby

I kind of caught that sarcasm. You had so much left over that I applied some of the leftovers myself.

    Trump bashing - a near full-time hobby

The "CBS This Morning" show played an excerpt of an interview with her and mentioned her book. For her story to be credible, she would have to have remained silent during the alleged event, which isn't how she described it. Not only should she have been able to attract attention, but heck, she...

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

On our wireless phone plan, we have that problem because our grandson rides our plan and he is always hitting the monthly limit with a week or more to go before the start of the next billing cycle (and reset of the limit).

    Mental processing speed...by age!

I have always thought that mental processing speed is more about fatigue than age. But that's just my opinion. I think we are born with an innate "natural speed" of cogitation, and that very little can ever accelerate it - but MANY things can decelerate it to an absolute crawl.

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

What really gets me is that (in the USA, and I don't know about UK) we can now get charged even for home hard-wired service based on volume of usage. That became a stronger issue when the USA FCC revoked "net neutrality" policies. But involuntary advertisements count against that usage. And...

Does something have to be accurate to be true?

The Bible is perhaps a bad starting point anyway since there are multiple interpretations of it. I agree we cannot reasonably take it literally. Some people think of it as allegorical, which is more in line with your idea of "not literally right, but perhaps a starting point for...

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

I solved that problem another way. I never bought an Alexa. But there is another way to avoid cognitive dissonance. Sadly, it speaks ill of those use this method, though. To avoid cognitive dissonance, you just have to be non-cognitive.

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

A recent news item I saw online is that Alexa, the Amazon "digital assistant" system, is under fire. Ten different states in the USA have filed lawsuits for breach of privacy. Seems that Alexa makes digital recordings of the voices it hears around it and sends it "home." Amazon somehow uses...

Always good to meet someone new. It is through peaceful communication that many issues can be resolved regardless of ideological, religious, or political differences. It is the differences that add spice to life.

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

Wow, Bee. And here I thought working for the U.S. Navy in a facility requiring Secret clearance would have strict setups, but that is even worse than we had for the Navy. We could at least keep cookies on the system under our desktop profiles (though they would not work for our roaming profiles).

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

I would think that in such cases, the "1st party cookie" rule would apply and they would remember your decision. But I don't know the inner workings of GDPR so can't be sure. In essence, that rule would allow them to remember your answer and not have ask again since they already know you said...

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

I wonder, Jon, if some of that is self-inflicted. From your discussion, it sounds like you are being barraged with pop-ups for cookie warnings. If that is not correct, then OK, I read something into it that wasn't there. But what I did was that I found settings for my browser to tell it to...

You asked if I am human or robot. Other than a bit of surgery to remove this or replace that, I'm strictly original flesh-and-blood equipment. But may I ask why you would ask the question you did? I don't think I've ever seen a bot who posts quite like I do. I would surely pass the Turing test.\

    I am Black, I am a victim

As one might expect, the woman who was head of the prosecutorial team denies bias and says there was a lot of evidence of wrong-doing even if the rape charges were wrong. Apparently there was some racial unrest in the park that night that involved other types of violence. She claims that the...

Is incarceration after the crime too late? Why not before?

In the USA, we do not use a 95% standard. We do not generally attempt to put any specific number in place. My issue is that in this hypothetical world, we need to assure that there is a chance for redemption or reconsideration. Otherwise, the first target to be a victim of extreme violence...

Is incarceration after the crime too late? Why not before?

That 2% is enough for doubt, but there is also the issue of the civil rights that would have be usurped to be able to specifically predict the actions of an individual. I might consider using that 98% as a reason to talk to the person contemplating this action as a way of letting them know that...

    I am Black, I am a victim

Ah, yes... evolutionary prejudicial tendencies. It is OK to say "prehistory" and we should be over it - but biologically we haven't changed that much. Our bodies during gestation go through evolutionary recapitulation. We still have the lizard brain stem that makes us territorial and tribal...

    I am Black, I am a victim

There is no doubt that "people of color" (the euphemism of earlier times) were treated very badly. There is no doubt that they just wanted to be treated like people (without the qualifying suffix). When things weren't happening because of deep entrenchment of ideas, that (actually natural)...
