Jussie Smollett and fake hate crimes

There has been a prominent case of a hate crime in the media lately. A rich, popular black actor said he was a victim of an attempted lynching, with a rope put around his neck. He said the two perpetrators were both wearing "MAGA hats". It now appears that it was staged. For those who don't know, MAGA stands for "Make America Great Again", a Trump slogan that was also previously used by Bill Clinton - see YouTube clip:

The 36-year-old African-American actor is accused of filing a fake police report claiming he was the victim of a homophobic and racist assault.

By claiming discrimination based on race and sexual preferences, you are trying to gain advantage against someone else's based on both their race and sexual preferences, because you are contrasting yours against theirs.

Apparently the actor has been going on about how despicable Trump is, that he is corrupt, lies and so on. Yet it is kind of ironic that he is doing everything that he claims Trump is doing. Even worse, two white guys were presented and asked if it was them, and he said it was. So, he was prepared to falsely incriminate two innocent white guys for his own ends. That is racism right there.

Is the victim culture of the left to blame for providing incentives to lie, particularly based on race, gender, sexuality or political preference?

This is just the most recent of a long line of publicity stunts for career or social purposes. There was a young woman who claimed to have been the victim of an attack that included rape, kidnapping, and smearing feces on her face, but that was later proved to be staged. Rev. Al Sharpton was involved in the aftermath. It wasn't the first time he had been involved in shady situations as a way to shine the spotlight on his idea of social injustice.

There have been many false accusations and quite a few cases where proof of the incident was not available. At the risk of opening recent wounds, let's not forget that a lot of people in public life have been smeared based on events that happened too long ago for any viable evidence to have remained, including the recent USA hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh. And before that, Judge Bork was nominated but eventually not accepted by the Senate due to the unsubstantiated claims against him.
