Is the earth flat?

I have a friend who swears it is. Many arguments have ensued. I said to him, "If the earth is flat, when the sun is shining, why doesn't it light up the whole of the flat earth?" His answer was it is more like a torch, so you don't see it from the other areas. Ahem.

The ancient Greeks even knew the Earth was round by looking at the shape of the Earth's shadow during partial lunar eclipses. Eratosthenes computed the diameter from simple geometry and got within 10% of being right. But he did it 2300 years ago and he did the computation without using any kind of mechanical or electronic calculator!

The flat earth thing has become a big movement. The conspiracy theorists gravitate (no pun intended) towards this sort of thing. The same crowd also tend to believe that Covid is something used by governments to control the population for nefarious reasons.

Or that 5G has something to do with Covid-19!

Oh yes, the 5G thing. How bizarre is that! Beaming out the Covid! I've always had the theory those that believe this type of stuff were not very good at science at school.
