    Pets as Therapy

Doc, you could get one of those Sony robotic ones. I think they understand commands better than a real one! I had a client years ago who had a wooden dog in their home. I always thought she seemed a bit cold. Very low maintenance though!

    Pets as Therapy

Good post there Bee. I like the idea of those cat cafes, where people can go in there and pet them. Great for calming the nerves! Something about all that fur!

There is only one God. They are [enter place of birth for answer]

Yes, I watched a documentary about that. Lots of conflict going on, all because of the different religions. That sounds like a new thread: do religions reduce internal conflict but increase external conflict?

Define evil in the context of modern society

Based on Bee's scale of evil, how does that relate to the railroad thought experiment. There are 20 people tied to the track and the train is hurtling down out of control. You stand by the lever with the option to redirect the train into the side track, which will mean you murder the single...

I've never heard of theh term "fire tornadoes" before. This seems rather like my post about the Eskimos knowing 50 different words for snow. I went to Vegas 3 years ago during July. They had a heatwave and it was over 110F. I remember sitting by the pool bar at the hotel, where they had a water...

    "Tinycards" from Duolingo

Have you been trying to keep your "streak" going? I ask because I posted something about this in my post called "The Grid - a game changer in productivity". It looks like the Duolingo app is using gamification and it is working! You could try using something like Anki for the tropical fish. It...

Has divorce affected your mental health?

Maybe it is a case that stress and anxiety goes up whenever the status quo is disturbed. We need the adrenalin to power us through difficult situations. When we all lived for around 35 years up until around 1800, when life expectancy started to rise, the long term effects of stress were not...

    Country philosopher

I've always thought the heat must play a big part. Not sure how your area compares to somewhere like Vegas. I presume you are closer to the equator? Tornados are always one of those things the alarm me. In the UK, we get them but rarely and tiny baby ones. Nothing of significance. I've seen...

Is the "Old South" a bit like Spain, with a manana attitude to life, with the New Yorkers being all rather zippy?

    Too many new threads?

I would like others to post thread titles, but there seems to be a reluctance to do so. Maybe it is because I am starting too many of them.

    "Tinycards" from Duolingo

Great post Uncle Gizmo! Good to see you back here. I like it. Had a quick look at the flash cards, which gives you the nice audio cue. The great thing about flashcards is they force an attempt at recall. This helps strengthen the neural trace. If you just look through highlighted notes, nodding...

Has divorce affected your mental health?

The sad thing is, when you are down in the dumps it is often harder to get the motivation to pull yourself up out of the hole. I suppose that is when a support network helps. Yet when it comes to divorce, you are losing your partner who may have provided support in the past.

    This is me!

Yes, that's right I remember now. I watched a movie on him recently on Netflix. Got quite a different perspective of him from what I knew before.

Is mass migration a net benefit?

I Googled if the phrase existed first and then used [sic.]. I didn't want to be accused of inflammatory language. ;)

    Off yer head

I concur. We have a great core of founding members. It would be nice is there was a little more diversity adding to the discussion.

    Too many new threads?

I am debating with myself over creating all these new threads or slowing the onslaught. On the one hand, new threads create engagement. But on the other hand, do they reduce the discussion on existing threads? What does the team think?

    How many genders are there?

I used to think there were two, with the others being referred to as "it". Nowadays, this seems to have changed. Or has it really?
