    Form vs Substance in politics

Nothing wrong with being an appeaser. Nothing wrong with wanting to mix things up a bit. But imagine how much less opposition Trump would have if he was half the Statesman Obama was.

    The Alabama Ruling

I read that a number of times, Doc, and reached the same conclusion - in that I can see how it can be argued. The nuance, I suppose, is that the 'person' who died was a foetus. At which point does life become life, with equal rights to those that are viable outside of a mother's body? At which...

    The Alabama Ruling

So the link is to a story that a woman in Alabama is facing prosecution because she got into a fight, shots were fired, and the 'baby' was killed. This is the same State that has made abortion in every circumstance, illegal. Not just illegal, but criminal. It is clear from the way in which...

    The Alabama Ruling

But in Alabama, it is illegal to have an abortion because you are denying the 'baby' life - even if that life is the result of a father raping his daughter. That's the whole point of this thread.

Does something have to be accurate to be true?

Ah... you fell into my trap of focusing on one element - that he rested. My point was that it is unlikely to be accurate that he created the earth in 6 days and that we are so focused on evidence that perhaps we are missing the bigger picture. Whimsical hypothesising - or creative thought? But...

Does something have to be accurate to be true?

I'm specifically talking about our old friend, the Bible. If you hear the story that God created the Earth in 6 days, and on the 7th, he rested - that's unlikely to be accurate and more, cannot be proven. But what if the real meaning is that the storyteller wanted you to remember that God...

Such a peculiar thing. Spending all that time and effort worrying about The Man eavesdropping on ordinary citizens, who then go and let an electronic listening device into their homes... Cognitive dissonance. I'm saying that a lot, lately.

    Hello, World!

No. You only ever use an apostrophe when you are contracting it and is/has to it's. The apostrophe signifies the missing letter(s). So you would say: It's a lovely day to be here by the sea. (It is a lovely day etc.) or It spins its brushes etc.

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

This is mostly true. The exception being those of us working for The Man. We have dynamic desktops so every time I log in, it forgets all of my settings and cookies. It's. Driving. Me. Mad.

Cookie popups, privacy warnings, GDPR...all driving me nuts!

GDPR (General Data Protection and Regulation) applies here, Doc. It means companies have to ask us if we are happy to have our data stored/used/harvested. That's why we are getting so many cookie warnings.

Nope - I agree with you. Companies are going to send adverts my way no matter what. I'd rather they were something I might be vaguely interested in and I just can't get excited about the government spying on me digitally. I'm doing nothing wrong. I'm not a terrorist. I don't (knowingly) have...

    I am Black, I am a victim

I work for the government too. I understand the obligation. In fact just today I was talking to my boss and saying that I need to deliver the value of my salary+ back to the organisation. I goofgled her too. I'm glad she has found a peace of sorts. But my point was more about the fact that...

    I am Black, I am a victim

Oh - and one final thing. The tv drama gave an update on the Central Park 5, showing us what had become of them since their incarceration. The victim, Trisha Meili, didn't even get a mention.

    I am Black, I am a victim

It's interesting that this issue comes down to race and prejudices - whether personal or systematic. I don't remember the case, nor do I know how it was reported at the time. I didn't really pick up a sense of racial motivation on behalf of the police from the Netflix drama - but I don't know...
