I'm Ann - you probably guessed that from my very unoriginal user name

I live on the south coast with my husband Ryan. We met at Liverpool Uni around forty years ago and have gradually moved south, mostly following work.

I've worked in medical records, as a cleaner and rent collector - but mostly in software. We recently closed our software business and in theory I've been concentrating on writing. In practice I've not been very well - I've had lupus for most of my adult life and I'm currently in a post operative flare up.

Anyway, my first novel was published a couple of years ago by small indie publisher Fahrenheit Press. My second novel is currently accruing rejections from lots of agents. I'm currently procrastinating starting writing the third.

I'm interested in lots of different stuff and enjoy a good discussion. Quick list - textile arts, archaeology and history, psychology - especially mind/body stuff. Alternative medicine (I'm generally against, but not aggressively sceptical. I've just tried too much of it.... I've always been interested in why people believe what they do - from politics to religion. I'm a lapsed methodist and a lapsed witch. I love to walk, and although I can't do as much as I'd like, I do try to get out for a couple of short walks every day and am trying to build it up.

While I'm not well, I'm stuck at home a lot and generally love to chat to people online. Looking forward to getting to know everyone, except Uncle Gizmo, who invited me.

Ann, I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. I've got a Cajun wife, three step-kids, three step-grands (all boys), and an extended family that goes on nearly forever. My longest-running job, from which I retired after 28 1/2 years, was as a systems administrator for the U.S. Navy (contracted). In my youth I was a semi-pro musician. I paid my way through college with that ability. (I'm a keyboard man.) I also have done some writing. I have five novels completed at the moment. I might go out and try to market them again, though I got some rejection letters for the first of the series some time ago. As for religion, I too am a lapsed Methodist and now an atheist.

As to my politics, I'm a USA melting-pot type. I believe in some level of welfare but I also believe in drawing strict limits on it. I would prefer small government but not so small that they are unable to do their mandated jobs.

Hi Ann, I'm glad you made it here! Ann wrote a brilliant book "A Savage Art" which I've read. We originally met as it were online, on a precursor to Facebook/LinkedIn called "Ecademy" a business orientated networking site where everyone used their real name, which was quite unusual at the time. The other thing Ecademy had which I have not seen anywhere else, was arranging local meetings. You first met people online, and then would meet them face to face. We even had meetings abroad. I met people in the Netherlands & Belgium and I am still in contact with some of them.

I picked a really bad to to join - busy sorting out space for my brother's pre-Christmas visit and sorting our stuff to post to friends abroad...

Hope I get time to look around some more threads before he arrives. Good to meet you Bee!
